March 9th is always a busy day in hip hop because it’s the day that The Notorious B.I.G. died. This year marked the 20th anniversary of his death and it was as busy as ever with people sharing their favorite Biggie moments. Many of the deceased emcees colleagues also hit various media outlets to take part in interviews which touched upon various aspects of his life, music and legacy. One of the more interesting ones was the release of the final artwork for The King & I, the upcoming collaborative album between Faith Evans and Biggie which is set to drop on the 19th of May this year. The album will reportedly feature unreleased vocals from Biggie which is a welcome development because it becomes tiring to hear the same vocals on different beats at some point. The album will feature production from the likes of DJ Premier and Just Blaze among others. Several songs will also feature the rapper’s mother, Mama Wallace.
Speaking of Mama Wallace she mentioned in an interview with The Daily Mail that she has a good idea on who killed her son 20 years ago but she did not mention any names. “I have a very good idea who murdered Christopher and I genuinely believe that the LAPD know exactly who did too,” she stated. “They’ve done their investigation, but they just refuse to move forward. I don’t know why they haven’t arrested who was involved…It seems to me that it’s one giant conspiracy, and someone is definitely being protected somewhere down the line.”
Also making the rounds is news of the new Bad Boy documentary titled Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: The Bad Boy Story who which will premier at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017. The documentary will give a behind the scenes look of the label and will cover how the murder of the label’s lead flagship artist affected the team.
